Our Wine Estate

PATUÁ is a unique family boutique vineyard of only one hectare, located in São Bartolomeu de Messines, in the heart of the Algarve, known for its beautiful gold sand beaches.

Set on a hillside crowned by two traditional windmills, the estate benefits from ideal vineyard conditions, including a warm microclimate moderated by elevation and coastal influences, as well as limestone soils.

Despite being in the family for five consecutive generations, the story of PATUÁ began in 2022, when Joana Guerreiro inherited the wine estate from her father, which inspired her to set roots back in the Algarve and breathe new life into the property, encouraged by the Algarve’s growing reputation for quality wines.

Inspired by travels through some of the world’s most iconic wine regions, PATUÁ embraces an approach focused on delivering “a distinctive and exclusive experience in every sip: quality over quantity, disruptive over conventional”, as Joana mentions.

PATUÁ’s winemaking philosophy emphasizes low intervention and patience. Grapes are hand-harvested, sulfites are kept to a minimum, filtration is gentle, and wines are carefully oak-aged, allowing each vintage to express its best.

Looking ahead, later 2026, the estate’s original old houses will open as guest accommodation under the name PATUÁ Wine Farmhouse. Inspired by rustic mediterranean farmhouses, it will feature 14 rooms, including two restored windmills.

Wine visits will be available to everyone who is curious to learn more about these wines and visit the wine estate.
